Savage Gear SG4 Medium Game and Savage Gear Pencil lure

A mirror calm Loch Etive at sunset is very hard to resist during the summer months. Especially when the midges aren't in full force yet.

I only nipped out for a quick half hour, but was rewarded with a decent sized sea trout for my efforts. After a short session with Neil from Perfect A'lure last weekend where we got some follows but nothing landed, I decided to grab a Savage Gear Pencil Lure from Anglers Corner in Oban after my shift.

The treble will be swapped for the single hook also provided in the pack now that I have got one to start the season

With my light sea trout rod in Connor's car whilst he is working abroad for a couple weeks, I stuck my 3000 Nasci on my savage gear SG4 Medium Game 12-42g. A bit heavy, but it would have to do. I also felt it appropriate when trying out the SG pencil lure in 13g Natural sandeel colours.

It didn't take long before my first fish, just a wee one at 8 inches, but it was my first of the year, so job done! I was about to leave when I saw a larger fish moving just past the weed. A couple casts later and the sea trout season was off to a very good start.

I am very impressed with the Savage Gear Pencil lure, it has a very slow roll, which is perfect for se trout. The small jigs work, but fish will often hit them and miss because of the fast movement, so this is definitely a solution to that that works. Now to head back and grab them in every colour and size....
