Spinning the river with Mylène and Théo

The majority of what we do on lochs and rivers is fly fishing, despite some waters allowing us to spin.

But Théo is an accomplished lure angler over from France, and wanted to try his learned skills on some bigger fish over in Argyll.

Mylène had not fished as much before, but when we got to the first pool, I was confident we were going to catch a few fish, with Théo heading up under the trees and flicking out a tricky cast straight away, and Mylène covering the main pool well.

It was 2 minutes in before I was dashing up to Théo with the net, and trout #1 of the day was landed!

As I saw Théo was fairly nimble getting casts out of tricky spots, I sent him under a tree to balance relatively precariously on a rock which was a 50:50 chance of the lure being hung up on the tree with the backcast, but he duly got it out and got hit by his new pb trout!

We won't talk about the fish that he lost from the same pool.. but it would have at least doubled his new personal best.. They will just have to come back for round 2!

The fish started coming thick and fast for both anglers from then, in both pools and faster water- we couldn't go wrong! The bridge pool did us well with half a dozen fish out in quick succession before we carried on downstream.

Mylène's biggest fish of the day came from the bottom of the next pool. a close call for who's was bigger..

My personal highlight was fishing my favourite run, it's such a beautiful spot, and usually produces, but it was all quiet today. We had another follow from a monster lower down, but it wouldnt commit- again, next time!

It was a pleasure to host the couple, and a total of 16 fish for a half day trip was certainly a new record, with Théo beating his largest trout 3 times in the afternoon!
