Last week I met up with the Hirsch family for some guided fly fishing and tuition near Oban. It was a stunning day, and fish were popping up to the surface every few minutes, so I had confidence of a catch.
The day started with a recap of the basics of playing a fish (they had previously been on a guided trip at home).

All 3 of them picked up the casting very quickly, and it wasn't long before we had bites, and Sally got the first fish to the net!
It was Maddy's go next, with a second fish in the bag. Smiles all round and discussion of which chip shop was best to go to while the brownies were in the oven.
It wasn't long before Maddy had another into the net, producing a good stamp of fish. She made it very clear that she was the main provider for dinner that evening, and made sure that dad David was reminded of this every few minutes to our joy (and David's frustration...)
David had the casting down and fired out almost every fly in the box in an attempt to get one to the net. Unfortunately it just wasn't his day, with 3 fish hooked and lost on the dries.
It was a pleasure taking the family out for the day, one of the most laugh-filled trips so far for sure!
