A full day of guiding was on the cards for Carl and Nick, with some freshwater fishing in the morning, and some salt later in the day. I met them at the Glencoe House Hotel in Glencoe, and after swatting away the thousands of midges as we shook hands, we headed out into the hills to find some wild brown trout.

The guys didn't fancy fly fishing today, so we were using light lures and spinners. We geared up with a light Abu Tormentor II combo and a Mitchell Pro combo, both <30g, and headed out for a fairly long walk through some very boggy terrain to find a rarely fished corner of one of my favourite lochs.
We started off at a weedy bay that I knew was a hangout for some big perch. Nick was very eager to get going, after pointing to a flat rock a few yards out, he knew what I was going to say, and I had barely finished my sentence before the spinner hit the water, it was fish on! It was soon to be followed by another for dad Carl.

The next 2 hours was manic with fish at every likely spot, we kept on the move, covering about a half a mile. We had 15 brownies, 2 parr salmon (I think..), and the 2 perch we started with. Fish ranged between 5 inches and 14, falling to 5g Salmo lures. What a morning!

The highlight of the day was definitely the double hook up as we were discussing that we should head back for lunch, both skilfully netted at the same time (although I say so myself) in quick succession.

The weather forecast was pretty miserable, but we managed to dodge the forecasted rain all morning, unfortunately it was a different story for the afternoon with only a couple of breaks throughout. The afternoon/evening session was booked in for some pollack lure fishing on Loch Leven.
The guys stopped for lunch and I headed out in the torrential rain to check out a backup spot with the heavy lures. It didn't quite produce as I hoped, with only 3 pollack to 3lb, so I met the duo around 4pm and we headed to Plan A.

After a fun scramble through forest and boulders, we reached some fishable stances at low tide. Unfortunately it fished similarly to the backup mark, with only a few fish after a manic start of losing a few fish.
The guys soldiered on through some heavy downpours until the rain broke, and Nick got a good bend in the 60g Penn Squadron III. He did well to keep it up out of the weed and I managed to land it safely.
Dad Carl followed up with his own shortly after, so mission success for fresh and salt in one day! Certainly demonstrating the best fishing in the Glencoe area, and some of its finest weather..
We have some unfinished business with the pollack though as they were on the small side, so next year we will go further afield for some monsters!
