Big Spring Pollack

After a busy week in the shop (Anglers Corner, Oban) sending people on their way with spinning rod setups and heavy jigs, I thought I should go out myself to actually see if there were any Pollack about myself!

I felt like I had some energy to burn, so I headed out south of Oban towards Lochgilphead to a remote headland that I had been meaning to explore. I had gone there in spring last year and did fairly well at the beginning of the headland, but this time I went for a good 45 minute hike each way.
I was armed with my heavy spinning setup and some heavy jigs, and some custom sandeels from Perfect A'Lure. I spent 4 hours without a touch, trying different stances and rocky outcrops to no avail, until I seem to have found the correct spot, and every second cast produced a fish over 3lbs. The first fish to come out though was the highlight of the day, at 75 cm and a big belly on it, I think it was just over the 10lb mark. I really should take some scales with me, but I try and travel as light as possible on the long recce missions.
The pollack are definitely in though! Looking forward to getting some guided trips in for them- it really is the best type of fishing to be had near Oban!
